MEC Lehari cautions motorists on rainy weather

As heavy rains continues across most parts of the Province, the North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari calls upon road users to drive slowly with caution particularly on the road construction sites to avoid unnecessary accidents.

According to the Traffic Authorities, when it rains the roads are slippery and that normally contributes to road accidents, therefore appeals to road users to be more vigilant and keep a safe following distance.

“Motorists will have to be more vigilant more particularly on road construction sites and certain areas where there might be floods and mist in certain parts of the Province,” warned Lehari. He said law enforcement and road safety officers will be visible and further requested motorists to cooperate on the road. “Our responsibility as the department is to make sure that you reach your destinations safely as we cannot afford to lose lives as a result of accidents,” said MEC Lehari.
The departmental MEC requests a partnership and assistance from all road users by committing themselves to the pledge by reporting reckless and negligence driving, drunken driving, overloading of passengers, excessive speed and any other hazard on the road by calling the provincial toll free number: 0800 204 994.
